Posts & Educational Qualifications (Essential)
(All posts are Level-6. Higher qualifications like B.E./B.Tech are acceptable in the same discipline where a 3-year Diploma is prescribed.)
Junior Engineer (JE) – multiple departments/sub-departments (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, S&T, Workshops, Production Units, etc.)
- Minimum Qualification (typical): 3-year Diploma in Engineering (discipline as per post) OR B.E./B.Tech in the same discipline.
- Examples (non-exhaustive):
- JE Electrical (various units): Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics (or permitted sub-streams).
- JE Civil (P-Way/Bridge/Works/DD&E): Diploma/B.Sc. (3-yr) in Civil (or permitted sub-streams).
- JE Track Machine: Diploma in Mech/Production/Automobile/Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation & Control (or permitted combos).
- JE Carriage & Wagon / Diesel Mech / Diesel Elec / S&T (Signal/Telecom) / Research / Workshop / D&D&E: per Annexure-A.

Upper-Age Relaxations (with valid certificates)

Nationality / Citizenship
- Indian citizen OR as specified (Nepal/Bhutan/Tibetan refugee pre-01.01.1962/PIO from listed countries) with eligibility certificate from Govt. of India where applicable. Certificate must be produced at DV.

Medical Standards (Post-specific)
- A-3 / B-1 / C-1 as per Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM) Vol-I.
- A-3 (e.g., many field JE roles): Distance 6/9, 6/9 (≤±2D); near Sn 0.6/0.6; colour/binocular/night/mesopic vision tests mandatory.
- B-1: Distance 6/9, 6/12 (≤±4D); near Sn 0.6/0.6; colour/binocular/night/mesopic as applicable.
- C-1: Distance 6/12, 6/18; near Sn 0.6/0.6.
- LASIK: Not eligible for A-3 posts. May be eligible for B-1 if specific conditions are met (post-LASIK duration ≥1 yr, RCT ≥425 microns, normal fundus, etc.).
- Ex-Servicemen medical standards are as per IRMM Para 534.
- No alternate appointment if found medically unsuitable for the opted post.

Reservation
Vertical: SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS as per Government rules (see Vacancy Table and paras 8.0+).
- OBC-NCL: Certificate in prescribed format, issued on/after 01-Apr-2025 and on/before 30-Nov-2025; self-declaration (Annexure-IIA) at DV. Only castes in Central OBC list (ncbc.nic.in) are eligible.
- EWS: Annual family income < ₹8 lakh and property criteria as specified for FY 2024-25; valid Income & Asset Certificate per Annexure-III (as on application closing date).
- Important court-specific notes for certain Bihar communities: See paras 8.8 and 8.9; new/updated caste certificates required as prescribed.
Horizontal: Ex-Servicemen & PwBD (benchmark disabilities under RPwD Act, 2016).
PwBD suitability is post-wise (see Annexure-A).
Backlog PwBD vacancies rules are specified (para 9.6).
Minimum qualifying marks relaxation (up to 2 marks) may apply for PwBD if shortfall exists.

Examination Fee & Refund (only if you appear in CBT-I)
- ₹500 for all (except below). Refund: ₹400 (minus bank charges) after appearing in CBT-I.
- ₹250 for SC/ST/ExSM/PwBD/Female/Transgender/Minorities/EBC. Refund: ₹250 (minus bank charges) after appearing in CBT-I.
- Payment Mode: Online only (Net-banking / Cards / UPI). Enter correct bank details for refund.
Minorities defined: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Zoroastrians (Parsis). Minority candidates claiming fee waiver must produce the Affidavit at DV (Annexure-IV).
EBC (fee concession only, not job reservation): Family income < ₹50,000; certificate per Annexure-IIIA/BPL card/Izzat MST/GoI poverty programme doc dated on/before 30-Nov-2025.

CBT-I (Screening) – 90 minutes, 100 MCQs (level as per minimum qualification).

Document Verification (DV) – 1:1 against vacancies (RRB-wise) based on merit in CBT-II (normalized where applicable) and options.
Medical Examination (ME) – As per post medical standard (A-3/B-1/C-1).
Tie-breaking: Higher age gets higher merit; if same, alphabetical order of given name (A→Z).

- DMS applicants (Diploma in any Engg.) must pick one non-CMA exam group during application.
- If you hold multiple eligible qualifications mapped to different groups, you may choose one group and still remain eligible for all opted posts that accept your qualification.

How to Apply (Online Only)
Create an Account on the official RRB application portal:
- Use the same account if you created one in an earlier CEN.
- Valid mobile number and email ID are mandatory.
- No edits allowed later to any “Create an Account” data (including mobile/email).
- Strongly advised: Verify identity via DigiLocker/Aadhaar during account creation for smoother processing (else expect stricter scrutiny at every stage).
Choose exactly one RRB and fill the single common application indicating your post/category preferences & Railway Zone preferences.
Live Photo Capture during the form (no upload of old photos):

Signature (JPG/JPEG; black ink on white paper; running handwriting only, not BLOCK/CAPS; 30–49 KB; min 140×60 px; in 35×20 mm scan box).
SC/ST certificate (PDF) only if you want free sleeper class travel for CBT/DV/ME.
Strict rejection grounds apply for signature/photo—follow specs exactly.
Fee Payment: Online only (Net-banking/Cards/UPI). Application is accepted only after fee confirmation. Keep bank details correct for refund after CBT-I appearance.
Language Choice for CBT: English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu). Questions appear in chosen language and English.
Modify Application (if needed):
03–12 Dec 2025; ₹250 per modification (non-refundable).
Cannot change “Create an Account” data or Chosen RRB.
If you change community/fee-concession status upward, you must also pay the fee difference (₹250) in addition to the modification fee.

Documents & Verification
At DV: Bring originals + two self-attested sets; upload true-colour photo & signature via https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv before DV date.
Certificates must be in English or Hindi (else attach self-attested translation).
Category/reservation/age-relaxation claims must match certificates in prescribed formats:
SC/ST: Annexure-I
OBC-NCL: Annexure-II + self-declaration Annexure-IIA; issued on/after 01-Apr-2025
EWS: Annexure-III (as on closing date)
Minority fee waiver affidavit: Annexure-IV
PwBD disability certificates: Annexure-V(A/B/C); scribe forms Annexure-V(D/E/F/G)
Ex-Servicemen: Undertaking Annexure-VI; Serving defence personnel: Employment certificate with probable discharge date Annexure-VI(A) (valid on closing date)
NOC: Candidates employed in Central/State Govt/PSUs (incl. Railways) must produce NOC at DV; failure leads to cancellation.

E-Call Letter & Free Travel (SC/ST)
- E-Call Letters for CBT/DV/ME downloadable ~4 days before the exam (city intimation ~10 days earlier).
- SC/ST who opted for free travel will get sleeper class pass printed on e-call letter; must carry original SC/ST certificate + original photo ID while traveling.
- At the exam centre: bring e-call letter, original photo ID, and a recent colour passport photo (≤ 2 months old).
- Self-declaration paragraph + LTI to be written at the exam hall only (CAPITAL letters will be rejected).

Exam Conduct & Banned Items
- Negative marking applies; no personal calculators or electronic gadgets.
- Banned: mobiles, watches, earphones, Bluetooth devices, calculators, books, pens, paper, bags, belts, cameras, water bottles/food items, etc. Pen will be provided at centre.
- No cloak room—do not carry valuables.
- Biometric & CCTV enabled; strict action under Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 for malpractice.

Posting, Training & Bonds
- Posting is in the allotted Railway/PU; inter-Railway transfer is not a right (generally restricted for initial 5–10 years).
- Training/stipend as prescribed; Security/Indemnity bond wherever applicable.
- Liable for active service in Railway Engineers Unit of Territorial Army, if required.
