Job Overview:
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal invites applications from eligible Indian citizens for current and anticipated vacancies in the positions of Senior Private Secretary and Private Secretary. Selected candidates may be assigned to ITAT benches across India.
Vacancy Information:
- Senior Private Secretary: 15 vacancies (Reserved: SC-2, ST-0, OBC-1, EWS-3, General-9; PWD-1 horizontal reservation)
- Private Secretary: 20 vacancies (Reserved: SC-2, ST-1, OBC-9, EWS-0, General-8; PWD-1 horizontal reservation)
Note: The vacancy count and reservation may be subject to change based on Government of India policies.
Pay Scale:
- Senior Private Secretary: ₹47,600 - ₹1,51,100 (Level-8, Pay Matrix)
- Private Secretary: ₹44,900 - ₹1,42,400 (Level-7, Pay Matrix)
Eligibility Criteria:
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.
Technical Skills:
- English shorthand speed of 120 w.p.m.
- Proficiency in computer applications (knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, or PageMaker preferred).
Age Limit:
- Maximum age of 35 years as of the application deadline (17th December 2024 for most candidates; 1st January 2025 for specified remote areas).
- Age relaxation applies as per government regulations for SC/ST/OBC and government servants.
Selection Process:
Written Examination:
- Paper 1 (General English) – Essay, Letter Writing, Precise Writing, Grammar (100 marks).
- Paper 2 (General Knowledge & Reasoning) – General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, Current Affairs (100 marks).
Skill Test:
- English Shorthand at 120 WPM, English Typing at 45 WPM (100 marks).
Personal Interview:
Qualifying Marks:
- General: 50%
- OBC/EWS: 45%
- SC/ST/PWD: 40%
Candidates who achieve the qualifying marks in the written examination will proceed to the Skill Test and Personal Interview stages.
Examination Centers:
The examination and skill test will be conducted in eight cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Guwahati, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad. Candidates may select two preferred centers. If any center does not receive sufficient applications, ITAT reserves the right to reassign candidates to their second preference.

- Application Form & Documentation: Complete the application form and attach self-attested copies of required documents, including proof of date of birth, educational qualifications, shorthand certification, and reservation category certificates (if applicable), along with recent passport-sized photos.

- Last Date: Applications must be received by 17th December 2024. For candidates residing in remote areas, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh, and others as specified is 1st January 2025.
Important Instructions:
- Candidates can apply for both posts using a single application form.
- Government employees must apply through the proper channel, including a No Objection Certificate.
- No TA/DA for appearing in exams, except for SC/ST candidates not in government service.
Probation Period:
Successful candidates will be on probation for two years from the date of joining.
